What is Paintless Dent Repair?
Dents & Dings removes dents, dings, creases and hail damage from vehicles without affecting the original factory finish. Our skilled technicians use specially-designed tools to gently massage body metal back to its original condition. Dents & Dings repairs are covered by a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
The process involves using reflected light off the dent in need of repair. The technician uses this as we use a tool similar to a pry bar, of varying size and shapes, to lift the dent up. As this technician reads the reflection of the light, they will push up the dent little by little until the dent is out. This is metal working at a very precise level. A Quarter size dent may take up to a hundred pushes before the repair is finished.
Another type of repair may be required called glue pulling.
The glue pulling process involves hot gluing a plastic tab to the surface of the dent then using a device to pull or lift the tab up, bringing the metal up with it and usually higher than it is supposed to be. We then go back and slowly work down the metal to its final repaired condition. This process takes longer but with a skilled technician, does work. Its better used on dents about quarter size or smaller. There is a possibility of pulling the paint off during repair. This normally only happens if the vehicle has been repainted.
The normal PDR lifting process is much more preferred by a technician as it is quicker and we are able to fix larger dents with this process.
With a proper repair, no one, even a professional should not be able to indicate where the repair was made.
History of PDR.
In the old days, before the 1950’s, the body shop technicians would use tools similar to large pry bars to repair the thicker metal vehicles they had back then. It was very similar to what we do now but back then most areas of the vehicles were wide open and accessible and would push the dents out quickly as the metal was more formable because of the type and thickness of the metal. The metals then began to be harder, thinner, unibody vehicles were being made and plastic based fillers were developed for use of this type of repair.
Then someone began using the same principle to repair dents and dings using the same concept, making there own tools and developing techniques. This person was probably working at vehicle factory plant (such as Ford) repairing many vehicles that were being dented during assembly, he repaired dents this way until he became good at it and decided to train people for a fee. It was at this time the field of PDR was born.
About PDR:
PDR repairs dents and dings on vehicles without affecting the original factory finish.
We can repair damage such as door dings, shopping cart dents, hail damage and larger dents.
Whatever the cause, technicians use specially-designed tools to gently massage body metal back to its original condition.
PDR process is faster than traditional repair methods and can be repaired normally ranging anywhere from 1/3 to 3/4 the cost of a conventional (Bodywork and paint) repair.
Time is saved as most hail repairs take 2 days or less to complete, and most door dings can be repaired in one hour or less.
